What is the Refugee Reference Group? The Refugee Reference Group (RRG) is a group of individuals with refugee backgrounds living in Korea, established to ensure that their voices reach the Korea Refugee Forum 2025. Based on their lived experiences and perspectives, RRG members share the realities faced by refugee communities and actively participate in the overall preparation of the Forum, helping it better reflect refugees’ needs and circumstances. They also serve as an important bridge, sharing information on KRF to refugee communities and ensuring that community feedback is integrated into the entire Forum process.
This year, 55 individuals from 15 countries applied, and 10 were selected as the final RRG members. The selection process considered a variety of factors to ensure a balanced representation, including diverse backgrounds, regions, ages, genders, expertise, community leadership, and experience in refugee-led activities. Ability to communicate effectively in Korean or English and availability to participate in approximately three hours of regular meetings per week were also key criteria.
The 10 selected RRG members will provide first-hand perspectives that influence the KRF preparation process, help identify pressing community issues, and facilitate more inclusive and responsive decision-making. |
